Eco Education

“Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.”
– Nelson Mandela

The Problem:
Without knowledge of how our actions positively or negatively influence the environment, it is difficult to make effective change. Children need to become aware and taught to understand our negative impacts on the marine ecosystem, understanding how to minimize harm.

How We Support Eco Education

Teaching children and young adults about the importance of the marine ecosystem and our impact on it helps them to be better stewards of this critical resource. We work with universities, organizations, schools based in Phuket and visiting from abroad, to deliver informative talks and interactive workshops on ocean conservation and rubbish reduction through the 7Rs: Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Re-use, Repair, Recycle and Rot (composting).

Sustainable Maikhao Foundation delivers one-day or multi-module workshops which can be combined with beach cleanup activities for students of all ages.

Goals and Impact

Our goal is to raise awareness of how much rubbish we produce, how it is currently being mismanaged and what effect it is having on marine life and our oceans. We hope to empower our community to find actionable solutions to this urgent problem by sharing knowledge and experience.

Since we began, Sustainable Maikhao Foundation has completed 128 eco education workshops, involving 4,471 children, across 24 schools, 4 universities, 3 hotels, 2 community groups. Our goal is to reach workshop number 150 by the end of 2024.
